WE MET

(see PHOTOS below)

John and I first met on May 10, 1966.   We had never even heard of one another, but we had a mutual “friend” – my brother Ray.  Though I didn’t know it at the time, John & Ray were part of the same Rock ‘n’ Roll Band – just like a million other teenagers after the Beatles hit the scene.  On that eventful day, there was a knock on the door, and there was John, who had specifically come by to speak with my brother.  Within a week of meeting, we had our first date – roller skating at the Mutual Arena in Toronto, and we were practically inseparable from then on.

We soon learned that we had much in common, although our lives were quite different.   We both lost our father at a young age – him through a marriage breakdown, and me through death.   We were both raised by a single Mom, without much money to go around.   We both learned to do without, and be satisfied with what we got.  We both enjoyed music, and played musical instruments (he played guitar and I played a euphonium).  We lived within a few blocks of each other in Toronto, and had attended the same public school (D.B. Hood) and high school (George Harvey), but our paths had never crossed.  He was four years ahead of me.

We were both a little lonely, and waiting for our lives to really begin ----

and begin they did!
